Student pilots working toward a private pilot's license must hold a current Third Class flight physical. Licensed pilots working toward an advanced rating must have passed the applicable written examinations and hold a current flight physical commensurate with the rating being sought. Dr. Lewis A. Jackson was a long-time resident of Xenia, Ohio, an educator (Wilberforce University, Central State University, and Sinclair College), a licensed pilot, a certified flight instructor, a licensed aircraft and engine mechanic, an airplane designer and builder, and community leader. During World War II Dr. Jackson was the civilian chief of flight instruction for the Tuskegee Airmen. Dr. Jackson was a charter member of the Greene County Regional Airport Authority and instrumental in the construction of the Greene County Airport. The Airport was later named in his honor.
